Adderall is a very powerful medicine prescribed for treating narcolepsy and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, shortly termed as ADHD. 3 to 5 years: Adderall is not recommended for children who are below the age of three. Children who are between the ages of 3 to 5 years can be given 2.5mg Adderall on a daily basis. The dosage can be increased in increments of 2.5mg at weekly intervals.
>= six years: Children who are of 6 years or older can be administered with 5mg Adderall to be taken twice a day. Their daily dosage can be raised in increments of 5mg at weekly intervals. Only in extremely rare cases, the dosage will be raised to 40mg per day. The initial dose of Adderall is usually taken upon awakening and the additional dose to be taken at intervals of 4 to 6 hours.
6 to 12 years: The initial dose is between 5mg and 10mg which has to be taken orally once every day upon awakening. The daily dose of Adderall can be increased at an increment of 5mg at weekly intervals. The dosage level however can be increased maximum to up to 30mg also depending upon the condition of the patient. Narcolepsy does not affect children who fall below the age of twelve years. 13 to 17 years: Adderall can be given in the dosage strength of 10mg once a day, usually as soon as you wake up in the morning. The daily dose can be raised to 20mg which can be taken once daily upon awakening after one week if your ADHD symptoms doesn’t seem to improve any further and are not under complete control. The maximum dose of Adderall is 20mg to be taken once daily and immediately as you wake up in the morning.
Whenever possible, the administration of the drug has to be interrupted then and there in order to find out if there is a recurrence of behavioral symptoms that is sufficient enough to continue the required therapy.
Above 17 years: Adderall can be taken orally with a glass of water irrespective of having had food or not. You should not crush, chew, break or open the Adderall pills at any time.
